Asian Weddings: How The Love Story “Payar Kahani” Begins and best way to Photograph and Videograph them?

Becoming hopelessly smitten in love is enchaining.  Love resembles a pixie’s wand that lights up the whole world for you. It has the ability to change our lives and give purpose to living.

At the point when we fall in love with our perfect partner, the world becomes wonderful. We feel over the moon and see just great in others. The conjugal association of two hearts, bodies, and spirits is heavenly, and individuals across societies commemorate this association and celebrate it through nuptials.

Through the ages, wedding ceremonies have evolved and developed, wedding photos, albums and wedding films vouch for the never-ending bonds that couples and their joint families share.

Any person who has witnessed our weddings would know how every second floods with a horde of emotions and blissful moments. While the bride (dulhan) and her friends (Saheli’s) might be dancing to hit Bollywood numbers at a Mehndi function, guests might observe the bride’s mother wiping away tears at Rukhsati / Bidaai. No, she isn’t sad that her daughter is getting married but in fact has tears of joy for her beti/dulhan (Bride) who might be going far away from her in her new home and beginning a new chapter in her life with the dulha (groom).

TLG offers photography & cinematography services and specialises in:

Are Asian weddings not usually called “Big Fat” Indian weddings? Indeed, our weddings happen at a grand scale.  It is not uncommon to have more than 500 guests at a traditional Indian, Bangladeshi or Pakistani wedding.

You can be sure that at apma Asian weddings you will see abundance of rich colours, sumptuous food and smashing dance routines.  Our Photographers and videographers feel like they are in heaven when they are tasked with a Indian or Pakistani wedding.

Our professional team based in London might start at the bride or groom’s house to take photos and film the bride getting her final makeup touches done or the groom getting ready for sehra bandi in his traditional sherwani.  The rituals / rasams and traditions are so rich and full of significance that each eclectic moment becomes a joy to capture.

From the dulhan/bride’s traditional wedding clothes (such as Lehnga or Sharara) to the embellishments and wedding decorations, from the specially prepared food for weddings to the different occasions that form pre wedding rituals, Asian wedding photographers or wedding videographers  can get dazzled by the grandeur at an Indian or Pakistani wedding – however, it is minute intricacies that motivates our staff to do encapsulate everything through the eyes of the camera lens.

Our weddings can become very tiring to capture as Pakistani, Indian and Sikh weddings are sometimes spread over a number of days and very long.  However, it is so rewarding and gratifying once we see the results and the outcome of our photographs and wedding videos from a wedding.

Traditional Asian weddings are mostly spread over a number of days or even weeks.  Each day holds special significance and the weddings usually culminate at Rukhsati/Bidaai followed up with after wedding functions such as Walima and Aashirwad.

How many days a Pakistani, Indian and Bangladeshi wedding lasts might boil down to the expense a family is willing to incur, timing of the festivities and availability of guests to attend.  Generally speaking, Bollywood weddings also influence quite a bit as to how a wedding in the UK proceeds.  Usually there is a build up to the main Baarat day at a wedding. Various dholki nights might happen before the actual Mehndi function and various parties and get-togethers (similar to hen and stag nights in the UK) might take place before the Baarat day.

The rhythm develops gradually through ceremonials like Mehndi, Tilak, and Sangeet at a Hindu/Sikh wedding to Mehndi (Gaye Holud), Baarat, and Walima at a Muslim wedding, climaxing at the actual day of the wedding – Baarat.  Let us be your perfect partner in London and the south of UK (Reading, Bristol, Luton, Milton Keynes, Portsmouth, Southampton, Northampton, Ipswich and Oxford) to document and film your wedding..

You can well imagine all the hard work and meticulous planning that goes in organizing a perfect Asian wedding.  In UK it is even harder to plan a apna wedding due to busy work schedules.

Usually the bride and groom and their families meet numerous times to chalk out a wedding plan.  Indeed, sometimes it is that there might not be a plan at all! This is what makes our weddings unique and joy to capture as sometimes most routines and rasams are impromptu and have that natural flair.

As Photographers and Videographers from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh, we love capturing natural moments that are not scripted.  It is these natural instinctive moments that make the best memories.

Customer satisfaction is our prime goal and it is for this purpose that we go the extra mile in ensuring that our clients are happy.  We have a great range of packages for Asian Wedding photography and cinematography for our subcontinental clients and we can always tweak our bundles to suit the clients requests.

Our weddings are remarkable as each wedding has commonalities yet unique aspects.  Regional and cultural values dictate how weddings are organized.  The common denominator is that our weddings, irrespective of culture or religion, are about the festival of sentiments that make people extraordinary.

Be it a Tamil wedding, a Punjabi Sikh wedding, a segregated Muslim Wedding or a Orthodox Hindu wedding – all the weddings have a serious as well as joyous undertone.  Asian weddings come sprinkled with fun and energy which makes it a pleasure to shoot and film.

Asian Wedding Report From London – Photographing and Videographing The Wedding of Sidra and Ishtiyaq

“Hamid and his team made it so easy for us. All of our wedding shoots seem out of this world! I never thought I would be able to find someone of this caliber to cover my wedding so professionally, he is possibly the best photographer for weddings in London!” – Sidra

We received a message from Sidra at the beginning of 2025. Sidra hailed from a traditional Pakistani background, her parents moved to the UK only a decade ago to provide her with a good education. She fell in love with her husband Ishtiyaq in university and wanted a spring wedding to be commenced by the mid of March. She found us on Google by searching for best Asian Wedding Photographers and Videographers in London.

She came across our page and contacted us immediately as our work spoke for itself. She was so bubbly yet there was a slight tremor in her voice which we were able to pick instantly. We put her at ease, made her comfortable, and asked about her requirements and expectations. She was a bit unsure about wedding venues in London that can cater to her family’s cultural and ethnic background, as she did not know her way around London.

We recommended her a few options of wedding venues and she jotted them down to discuss the best option with her fiancé and family. After a few weeks, she called back to deliver the happy news that they were able to find the perfect place for her dreamy fairytale wedding.

A Minimalistic Mayun Coverage – Photographing an Asian Wedding

Sidra showed her concern to maintain religious and cultural sanctity for her segregated events. She needed a photographer and filmmaker to encompass all her wedding moments, and she asked if there are any female photographers available to capture her Pre Wedding Rituals such as Dua-e-Kheir and Mayun events, we happily complied with her request and dispatched our team of female photographers and videographers to photograph pre-wedding events. These events were kept simple, intimate, and very minimalistic featuring only the closest relatives and friends of the bride. Our team captured the splashes of yellow hues, the candid laughs, the flaunting of flower jewelry, and the giddy laughs after eating mouthfuls of mithai!

A Muslim Bride Getting her Hijab Setting Done – Asian Wedding Photography Report.

In dua-e-kheir, a milaad was conducted at the bride’s place and a collective dua (prayer) was held for her good naseeb (fortunes) after the wedding. It was a tearful moment, especially for the mother and sisters of the bride. A day or two after, her ubtan ceremony was held that was so jovial and merry that it made up for the solemn emotions of the bride and her family a few days before. All her precious moments were conserved artfully and aesthetically so when she looks back on this day she feels nothing but great happiness and gratitude.

Celebrations of Barat & Bittersweet Moments!

For their baraat celebrations, the couple’s families went ahead with their savings and left no stone unturned in arranging a lavish Indian wedding for their children’s union. Surely, the bride was adorned with a beautiful designer wear red lehenga along with exquisite makeup that screamed “Princess”! Groom rocked a Sherwani brought all the way from Pakistan, it was a beautiful blend of gold and red.

The bride (dulhan) wanted to communicate with me regarding her postures with her husband for perfect wedding portraits. I had already shown her my previous coverage of a Pakistani wedding and she was impressed to see the soul of religious and regional traditions reflected in those photos. I spoke with her and her family in Urdu and Punjabi for easy and fluent communication. They relaxed and felt at home with me and my team, letting us do our work and click the best planned and candid shots.

Dulha’s – grooms family hired us to capture his poignant moments of sehra bandi, meanwhile, our other team was already covering the initial shots of the bride at the wedding venue. Groom kept his big entrance as close to tradition as possible and ended up arriving at the wedding venue on a horse! The enchanting moment of this daredevil groom was saved by our camera’s eyes. More rituals and rasams were performed and finally, the groom was able to sit next to his bride after Nikah.

A Pakistani Bride at her Rukhsati – Asian Wedding Photography Report

Doodh Pilai was a crazy moment as the bride’s sister “sali” wanted to bag more money and the groom’s family was shooing them teasingly. Then came Rukhsati and a tearful departure of the bride. This wedding was a myriad of overflowing emotions, that were captured beautifully by our team from various angles. The bride was escorted towards the carriage, though it remained inside the venue yet it gave the desi traditional vibes of an old Pakistani wedding. Later the valet brought the Cadillac and the groom drove his wife towards their new home. The essence of this serene and soulful moment was captured gracefully by our team of photographers as well as videographers.

 A Dreamy Walima Reception:

The teary-eyed bride of yesterday entered the reception venue with a cheeky smile! Tucked neatly in a tuxedo, the all-smiley groom was making his way towards the stage with his bride on his arm, all dolled up and clad in an ice-blue sequined gown. The couple looked like royalty descending from the staircase. Both families awaited their arrival and rushed towards them in glee and excitement. Our photographers and filmmakers captured all these merry moments, embraces, smiles, and a blend of emotions.

Asian Wedding Photography in London Report: Couple Photoshoot on Their Baraat Day

A Walima reception usually does not have any ritual or rasam, however, gifts are exchanged between the groom’s and bride’s side of the family, which mostly consists of jewelry, valuable items, and clothing. The newlywed couple is also bestowed with small and big presents as well as “Salaami” (cash) at their walima ceremony. This exchange of gifts is called “wartan wartaan” in Punjabi, like literary means “exchange of goods”.

After this merry-making, a wedding banquet was laid with absolutely succulent sweet and savory dishes. Guests and family enjoyed the food, did some gossip, laughed, and smiled all day long. These cute candid moments are forever reserved by us through the eyes of our camera and our creative set of skills.

The Evening of Mystic Musings and Sufi Songs:

The main events of Asian / Pakistani wedding are usually halted at Walima. However, the groom had an exceptional Sufi taste in music and he went on to lengths to arrange a glimmering night of post-wedding celebrations aka the qawwali night. This occasion is meant for the audience to be laid back, relax, and rejoice! The couple and their families are done with the big days so this day is for them to unwind and enjoy the sensational qawwali songs. The bride dazzled in an emerald green sari and the groom dressed up in a kurta-shalwar matching the same color as his wife.

Traditional delicacies were cooked and made all night long including fresh desi barbeque and meetha paan. There is nothing more satisfying than biting into tender and smokey chicken tikka straight out of coals. And then indulging in a sweet rhapsody by eating paan. Unaware guests were captured enjoying these delicacies and their pictures gave everyone a hearty laugh. Our videographers use the latest technology and we take wide-aimed shots using camera drones, that give an aerial view of the wedding venue. The shots came out looking exquisite and the couple was extremely pleased with our services.

Let’s Meet the Couple!

Sidra: So our love story is actually quite interesting. I met Ishtiaq in university when I was a fresher and joined different houses and societies for a good PR. Ishtiaq was my senior and the general secretary of one of the societies. Let’s say a few days into joining the society had me completely swayed by him. He was kind, generous, and extremely smart. Then and there I knew I found “the one”.

Fast forward 4 years later, he proposed to me and I said yes! We couldn’t wait to get married. It was nerve-wracking having to arrange everything from scratch including wedding dresses, venue, catering, and whatnot. Fortunately, I came across TLG wedding photography, run by Hamid and his team. That person is a gem! I just conveyed whatever I had in mind regarding my wedding photoshoot and he was quick to catch on and made that happen! Our wedding package delivered us exactly what we asked for, the pictures and videos look straight out of a fairytale! He earned that 5-star review from me!

Ishtiaq: Looking back at the time now I find it hard to believe that I am now married to the love of my life. Sidra has that aura that makes everybody turn their head around whenever she enters a room. It didn’t take me a second to think that yes, this was the girl I wanted to spend my whole life with.

I’m in awe of her, how she managed to plan everything, and chose the best for our wedding, including venue, food, and photography services. When Sidra first introduced me to Hamid and his team I was already contacting other photographers. But meeting him in person made me cancel my other options because his experience and expertise were speaking in his work. Moreover, Sidra, my wife, was comfortable with him working as our wedding photographer so I laid the ball in her court and I’m glad to say that I’m very happy with my decision. I loved his cinematographic skills. Everything was captured beautifully. I’m thankful to Hamid and his team for making our wedding day worth it by clicking such fabulous shots.

Do It Indian But Do It Right!

Indian Weddings, although, don’t differ much from Pakistani weddings, yet their events, customs, and rituals are a whole lot different. Again, one of the pre-wedding ceremonies in Hindu weddings is the engagement ceremony.

Asian Wedding Photography, Asian Bridal Makeup and Bridal Mehndi

A Sikh Bride at her Wedding Photoshoot – Asian Wedding Photography

This event is mostly deemed as an intimate one with family members, close relatives, and friends from the bride’s and groom’s side. Rings are exchanged and the bride and groom seek blessings from their elders called aashirvaad to seek their permission and blessings before stepping into the proceedings of the wedding. We respect such moments and make sure to capture these memorable instances and make them timeless! The proceedings of Indo-Pak weddings resemble a great deal.

In Mehndi Ceremony, the Henna is applied to the bride’s hands, feet, and even on the back. In some cases, the groom’s hands are also laden with henna. Mehndi ceremony of an Indian Wedding has as many steps as that of a Pakistani wedding, even music, bhangra, and beat of the dhol drum are hard to miss in an Indian mehndi ceremony, and we make sure to incorporate all these vibes and beats in the wedding frames, the key is a perfect capture of course!

Next up is Sangeet Ceremony. This event is different from a typical Pakistani Shadi, however, it bears a close resemblance to a Pakistani wedding. Sangeet night is conventionally meant to be a segregated event i.e. an event meant for the ladies of the house solely. However, nowadays it is deemed more enthralling and enjoyable with the presence of the couple-to-be. This event helps loosen the wedding stresses held by both bride and her family as well as the groom and his kin. Sangeet night is all about music, dance, and relaxation! And let the photographers and videographers do the heavy work aka capturing the best shots that are our mojo!

Family Putting Bunting and Decorating the Family Home for a Traditional Hindu Wedding

The next event in line for a Hindu wedding is a Sagan/Tilak Ceremony which is reckoned as a very auspicious and significant pre-wedding ceremony. In this event, the bride’s family usually visits the groom’s place to mark his forehead with Kumkum (vermilion). After that groom seeks the Ashirwad of the bride’s parents and elders and sweets are exchanged. This event grants the approval and permission from the bride’s family to proceed with the wedding.

Like a Pakistani wedding, a Hindu wedding also consists of a Haldi Ceremony, where the bride and groom are smeared and coated with a haldi paste called ubtan. This cheeky and joyous event embellishes the wedding albums through the pop of yellow color, which we aspire to capture in events like these. Fun fact: in hindi there are many words for this haldi paste-like ubtan, tel baan, mandha, etc. Haldi ceremony holds great significance for the bride and groom because in not only does it beautify them, rather in Indian culture it is considered a great omen to ward off bad spirits.

Next up is Roka ceremony which is considered the building block of an Indian marriage. In this ceremony, the bride and groom are officially asked for their consent to be wedded to each other. When they say yes, sweets and delicacies are distributed. This day acts as an inter-family date where the groom and the bride get to spend time together and learn to know each other. Sometimes, a puja ceremony is also conducted to seek blessings from the priest. The sanctity and holiness of this day are respected and captured effortlessly by our team.

The next ceremony is that of Saat phere or Saptabadi. Here, the couple’s attires are knotted together and they perform seven circumambulations around the sacred fire (Agni Kund). The couple is showered with flower petals to bless them with good shaguns (omens). The couple sits down and is blessed by the head priest for a prosperous married life ahead. Groom tries a malangsutra around the bride’s neck and puts vermillion in her hairline to declare the bride his wife. The final ritual consists of them putting garlands around each other’s heads. Very momentous and sacred moments are caught by us from every angle so each captures tells a different story.

Asian Wedding Photography: Hindu Wedding Ceremony

Hindu Wedding Ceremony – Asian Wedding Photography in London

Then comes the most emotional event of the wedding; Vidaai. Before saying farewell to her family, the teary-eyed bride takes handfuls of rice and throws them over her head, repeating the process five times over and symbolizing the fact that she is leaving everything back, her debts are being paid and now she is looking forward to a new beginning filled prosperity and happiness. Catching these dynamic moments is an artisan’s work who has experience and expertise in clicking multiple shots of a moving scene and making it look beautiful!

Team TLG is here to turn each fleeting moment into a memory of love. The bride is then escorted to a car where the bride’s brothers and cousins push the car, which symbolizes that the brothers are helping her start a new life with her husband. After the car starts, money is thrown on the road to discard or ward off the evil spirits.

Vidai is usually followed by a reception to throw a wedding feast and enjoy music and dance with your loved ones exhibiting your passion and gratitude. Although this event has no mandatory rituals to be followed, it is considered one of the significant events in a Hindu Wedding. Team TLG is more than happy to comply with our wedding clients and make their big day memorable, exceeding their expectations in terms of friendliness, professionalism, and creative work!

London – Asian Wedding Photography at the hybrid Indian Wedding of Salman and Nandani

“Our wedding and its shoot was a challenge, I browsed several wedding photographers in London but trusted no one. Came across Hamid’s page and was surprised to seek his work. I knew I had to hire him there and then for our wedding photoshoot. I’m not regretting it a bit, he did an amazing job!” – Salman

It is not every day that we see a fusion of two very different yet extremely alike people, sharing the same traditions and cultures but hailing from different regional and religious backgrounds. However, these constraints did not stop our ‘Laila and Majnu’ ki jorri, rather only pushed them forward in their quest to get each other. Salman contact us a few months back and asked us questions related to our photography, our experience in this field, and the equipment we use to make good shots.

We provided him with all information honestly and he asked us to schedule a meeting with him. He seemed so passionate about his wedding but was a bit apprehensive. We took him in confidence and he disclosed that it is a hybrid wedding as in he belongs to a different religion as he is an Indian Muslim, but his wife-to-be was a Hindu. And no matter how advance the world gets there are always going to be people who pass judgmental comments.

He belonged to a very open-minded family that embraced his wishes to marry the love of his life. We assured him that our team will make him and his wife feel at home while working with us. This got him a little relaxed and we started planning the coverage of all events shoots and which wedding package suited him best.

A Memorable Start:

The first event of Salman and Nandini’s wedding was roka ceremony or a formal engagement. The groom along with his parents and close relatives visited the bride’s house for an official wedding alliance. We were there to capture each moment of this auspicious ceremony.

The bride’s and groom’s elders gave their permission to their union, blessed them with their prayers, and performed a number of rituals like putting vermillion on the bride’s and groom’s head, putting an embellished red cloth over the bride’s head, and placing goods and gifts in their laps for a good omen. The groom’s family also held a collective dua over their heads for their happy life ahead. Our team encapsulated all these sacred moments that laid the foundation for the wedding of this couple.

Afterward, sweets and delicacies like laddu, gulab jamun, and rasgullay were distributed among each other. Pre-wedding gifts were exchanged. The bride and groom put their wedding bands on each other’s fingers. And finally, everyone headed to the spread where the wedding feast was laid. The groom and the bride were left alone to enjoy their own bubble, and those candid moments are forever saved in our cameras.

A Blast of Sangeet and Shenanigans!

This is the first main event of the wedding series for Salman and Nandani. They collectively wanted to converge their sangeet event and mehndi ceremony into one big fat holi-themed wedding event. No stone was left unturned in arranging this extravagant and grand wedding celebration. We were able to capture one of the most lavish Indian weddings in London.

The day started off with the grand entrance of the bride on a Doli (carriage), led by her dancing brothers and cousins. Confetti of colors was discharged from the ceiling, making the green-attired bride pop even more. Nandani looked exceptional in a green Sharara and yellow dupatta. The flower garlands across her neck gave her a soft and serene glow. Bride’s sisters were dancing to the irresistible beats of “aya lariye”, the dholl of the drums adding more to the thrill. Each beat splayed colors creating a kaleidoscope of a multicolor symphony.

The groom was entered with as much grandeur on a rickshaw! Their wedding was all about experimenting with possibilities and the results of such fusions came out to be flawless! We were keen to imprison all these beautiful moments through our cameras. Each click told an untold story of the day, which will commemorate the beautiful moments later on in the lives of the then-married couple. The dance competitions were held back to back and each performance was as powerful and energetic as the opposing party.

However, the game changed when the bride herself stepped onto the dance floor and captivated the groom with her mind-numbing skills. In the end, the bride and her team won and another shower of colors was splashed across the podium. After these full-of-life celebrations, the bride and groom were seated to apply henna and perform mehndi rituals. The jolly ceremony ended with good music and great food and my captures painted the picture of everyone’s happy emotions, Cheshire cat smiles, and exquisite dance moves!

Farewells and New Beginnings at Vidaai:

The Vidaai/Rukhsati ceremony is the heart and soul of any wedding. We made sure to keep our teams ready at the wedding venue, as punctuality is of utmost importance and we always prioritize the needs and comfort of our valued clients.

First, the bridal procession enters, and the bride is led towards a separate hall. Nandani adorned a beautiful red Lehnga Choli, she was even wearing a gold crown over her head! Her outlook did not seem any less than a royal queen. We did what we do best and ensured to capture the elegance and strong stance radiating from the bride.

The groom enters the venue next with his family, rocking a Sherwani with a turban and a sword hanging from his waist! Before the proceedings of any rituals, the bride and groom requested a separate photoshoot and we complied. Outside the venue was a small woodland giving eerie yet mystic vibes, perfect for the shoot of the king groom and queen bride! We took portraits, landscapes, and many other shots of our couple, which now adorn their living room walls!

The same old rituals were performed that were a blend of Muslim and Hindu Wedding. The bride threw rice over her head while leaving her mother, father, and siblings teary. The poignant expressions were filmed and saved to last forever.

Finally, the bride is seated in the wedding vehicle which is pushed by her brothers, cousins, uncle, and father as a gesture that they offer their goodwill to her and that they will always have her back. The love story of Salman and Nandani was part ecstatic, part emotional. Their wedding pictures and video package is still used to date as a reference by their friends and family for exceptional wedding photography, that’s how high we hold our standards!

Couple’s Reviews & Recommendations

Salman: Nandani and I used to work under the same company for quite some time, but none of us made the move first. I started noticing Nandani when our projects were close to reaching deadlines but she somehow managed to nail the work at the last minute each time!

Everyone in the office was all praises for her kindness, grit, and genius mindset. One day I was scolded by the boss for my messed-up report and Nandani immediately came to my rescue. Not only was I ecstatic, but I was also entranced by her character and temperament. And believe me, I immediately asked her out, and thank God she said yes!

I had reservations about choosing an wedding photographer for my wedding. However, all my concerns vanished into thin air when I met Hamid in person. Unlike other wedding photographers who mean all business, Hamid felt like family right from the beginning.

I could feel as if he was equally concerned for my wedding photoshoot as I was! Truly amazed at his talent, persistence, patience, and uncanny passion for wedding photography and videography. All I did was type “Indian Wedding Photographers in London” and his page popped up. I’m very happy in choosing him, he made my wedding worth each penny!

Nandani: Salman was doing a chunk of homework regarding our wedding arrangements. My job was to look for Indian wedding caterers and venues, whereas he was managing the much-anticipated photography hunt. I made it clear to him that I don’t want to work with any photographer who does not make me comfortable. I knew if I was feeling low and uneasy then the whole wedding will be put in jeopardy.

I wanted my pictures to look like something straight out of a history book featuring Mughal kings and queens. I knew I gave him a hard time to Salman, but he is the best husband one could ask for! He caters to my needs, reads my mind, and said let me introduce you to this guy and tell me how you feel about him. We went for our official meeting with Hamid and I could not believe my luck!

He made us so comfortable, shared Punjabi jokes, and had a light conversation then we started getting towards how we wanted our wedding film and photography session to proceed. He showed us his wedding packages and we picked the one which suited our needs the most. Choosing TLG was one of our best wedding decisions as our wedding photoshoot and film came out flawlessly! It was perfect, recommended 10/10!
